Porsche Design was founded by none other than Prof. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, designer of the pivotal Porsche 911. He started with the simple goal of creating “a watch for the car,” so it had to be sharp and sophisticated, but never flashy or ostentatious. With that in mind, he made it black, with dials resembling a speedometer and avoided dazzling aesthetics that could distract from its functionality. Thus, the Chronograph I timepiece was born. 

But one thing fascinated Ferdinand about designing this watch. He noticed that many of the lessons learned from designing a vehicle proved just as valuable while designing the watch; lessons like how to choose the right materials, how to put form behind function, and how to infuse the Porsche DNA into every detail. Since then, Porsche Design has expanded its offerings to a vast array of apparel, electronics, and other accessories, all of which have been elegantly crafted with these tenets in mind.

It’s About Time

Now Porsche Design is celebrating its 50-year legacy with a campaign titled, “It's About Time,” and they're kicking things off with an auction for two iconic creations: A restored Porsche 911 S 2.4 Targa from 1972, and an original Chronograph I watch. Additionally, they're releasing just 750 of the Porsche 911 Edition 50 Years of Porsche Design, in honor of F.A. Porsche's groundbreaking original design. Few treasures could be more enticing to a Porsche fan, and you can learn more about them all on the Porsche Design homepage.

Asphalt 9: Legends & Asphalt 8: Airborne Contest

Even if you can't get your hands on such rare items, there are plenty of ways to join the celebration with Asphalt, and possibly win some authentic Porsche Design merchandise in the process. That's because Asphalt 8: Airborne and Asphalt 9: Legends are holding limited-time events throughout October, allowing players to experience the audacious power and graceful style of the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and the Porsche 911 GT1 Evolution in-game. Each car will sport its own custom decal created just for this event, and the fastest racers (plus a few randomly-selected participants) will be given a variety of rewards, including physical prizes from the official Porsche Design shop.
